The Corby Sixth Form welcomed Lee Barron, MP for Corby and East Northants, for an insightful visit with Law and Politics students this term.
Lee Barron MP was elected in July 2024 after vowing to strongly engage with the local community, and this recent visit was a prime example of that in action.
Hosted under the guidance of Politics & History Tutor, Kim Price, the session provided students with a unique opportunity to meet their local Member of Parliament and discuss the current affairs within modern politics. The visit included a Q&A session and wide-ranging discussion, with topics spanning Lee’s personal background, political parties and how they operate, the controversial assisted dying bill, violence against women and girls, and the pathways available for young people to get into politics.

At the end of the session, students also had the opportunity to speak to Lee Barron MP one-to-one or ask any further questions.
Visits such as these bring topics outside of the classroom, encouraging students to see how politics affects them within their own lives, alongside their usual studies.
Lee Barron MP praised the students’ curiosity and engagement, saying “I was very impressed with the students’ political questions. It‘s always great to engage with the younger generation in Corby, plus tell them a bit more about what it means to be an MP.”
The visit highlighted the essential role of further education in shaping the future staffing of key sectors. It also showcased the vital importance of encouraging political awareness in young people in Corby, particularly those preparing to enter higher education or the world of work.
Opportunities like this reflect The Corby Sixth Form’s ongoing work to building strong relationships with local representatives and ensuring students are inspired, informed and confident in engaging with the world around them.
